1. Director of Development
Reports to: Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Development will proactively lead the development and the execution of a fundraising strategy to allow AWC to continue operations. The Development Director manages and coordinates the many facets of AWC development and fundraising work, including, but not limited to:

 

·      Government, foundation, and corporate grants. 

·      Individual donor fundraising and cultivation. 

·      Internal and external fundraising communications; and

·      All fundraising projects and events.

 

We are seeking a seasoned, creative, and energetic fundraising professional to help build and support an engaged team and lead the organization’s U.S. efforts to increase, strengthen, and diversify our fundraising. The Director of Development will work closely on a team with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Development Team, and other AWC staff to achieve the organization’s vision. 

The Director of Development will join AWC Development team in a full-time capacity. The position will have a three-month probationary period and yearly evaluations, which will determine this role’s advancement in the organization.

 Responsibilities: 

  • 1. Fundraising leadership and expertise: Lead the execution and diversification of the Asiyah Women’s Center fundraising through government (city/state/federal government/international institutions) contracts; foundation grants; corporate giving and partnership development; the development of a major donor program; benefit event fundraising; individual giving; and board and advisory board development and cultivation.

  • 2. Major donor cultivation: Work closely with and create opportunities for the Executive Director to engage and cultivate relationships with key supporters, including philanthropists, institutional funders, board members, major donors, leading volunteers, and city and community leaders to increase support for AWC and its visibility.

  • Team supervision: Manage the development staff, and provide timely feedback, assign tasks, pay close attention to deadlines, and address shortcomings and challenges.

  • 3. Grant Writing and Prospect Research: Lead all grant writing in close coordination with relevant Senior Management, Program staff, Finance staff, and/or provide support when needed.

  • 4. Grant Compliance and Program Reports: Ensure project activities align with grant agreements in close coordination with Program and Finance staff, Manage AWC’s grant reporting calendar and ensure timely submission of program reports, including keeping leadership informed of progress and deadlines, Supervise and write, when needed, grant/funder reports, working closely with the Program and Finance teams.

  • Establishing an organizational endowment and raising funds for the endowment.

  • 5. Proactive fundraising plan development: Work in close partnership with staff and the Board of Directors to develop and execute an ambitious 3-year fundraising plan, which supports the organizational vision and will secure its long-term sustainability.

  • 6. Fundraising strategy lead: Develop and lead an ambitious fundraising strategy, working closely with the staff team and leadership team to implement .

  • 7. External communications with donors and supporters: Work closely with the Communications team to create visually and emotionally compelling e-content and print content for AWC supporters and followers.

Qualifications: As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of AWC and be driven by its mission. Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate with proven experience in scaling a multi-site organization and a demonstrated ability to lead an ambitious and growth-oriented fundraising strategy.

●       A minimum of 5 progressively responsible development experience, with 3+ years in management roles.

●       Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred.

●       A proven track record of raising funds for organizations.

●       Proven ability to develop and follow a vision and strategic plan.

●       High level of professionalism and ability to articulate vision, mission, and strategy, and to represent the organization to donors as a confident, informed, and inspiring leader.

●       Superior relationship-building, speaking, and writing skills.

●       Excellent team builder and team player.

●       Understanding of online and campaign fundraising.

●       Experience working with program and finance teams.

●       A demonstrated commitment to women’s advocacy and human rights.

2. Social Worker/Case Manager

Reports to: Executive Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    provide direct services to clients who are seeking shelter, as well, including but not limited to: referrals for immediate needs, advocacy in order to access shelter, housing assistance, food and clothing, benefits, employment or educational training, health, mental health, and details regarding client’s rights. And accompany clients in obtaining Order of Protections, lawyer appointments, medical appointments (at the client's discretion). 

2.    develop and maintain working knowledge of relevant social services systems/agencies, including shelter intake, rules and guidelines, housing programs and procedures, as well as benefits and entitlements programs. 

3.    inform and support clients in the process of advocating for their shelter rights and benefits; and conduct intakes of new clients.

4.    maintain accurate and proper record documentation using the database and ensure that client files and case notes are up to date;

5.    Alert Executive Director regarding client emergencies and assist in efforts to promptly deliver appropriate services;

6.    participate in weekly and bi-weekly staff meetings, as well as training and staff development and orientation activities;

7. Provide on-site direct counseling services to clients and lead group therapy service. Formulate an evaluation and treatment plan for clients. Assess service needs and provide individual counseling services to clients.

8.  Develop programming for our single mother’s trauma informed parenting programming and lead our mental health services trainings/programming. 

Qualifications: 

 1. Master's Degree in Social Work or Mental Health from an accredited school of social work. 

3. Arabic, Urdu, and/or Bengali speaking preferred

4. License Requirements

You will be required to have a valid Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) issued by the New York State Department of Education within one year of the date of appointment. This license must be presented to the appointing officer at the time of appointment or, if it is obtained after appointment, at the time it is received. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

5. Driver's License (preferred but not mandatory)

3. Policy, Advocacy, and Programs Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Draft and research policy and legislation for AWC. Keep up to date on new policies impacting women, women of color, the homeless, domestic violence survivors, immigrant rights, immigration detention, and work to create legislation with politicians and other groups to address policy issues. 

2. Develop and implement AWC policy and governmental affairs strategy, including efforts to increase public funds for learning and enrichment, and advancing programmatic priorities in topics such as anti-domestic violence programming.

3. Develop and strengthen relationships with government staff and officials in New York City and State, including the City Council, Mayor’s Office, city agencies, Governor’s Office, State Education Department, Office of Children & Family Services, Assembly and Senate.  

4. Develop, maintain and build on AWC partnerships and coalitions throughout the city, state and nation, playing a lead role with groups.

5. Collaborate across departments internally to build programmatic voices into policy discussions and recommendations and engage all teams in advocacy efforts.

6. Create and coordinate opportunities to promote AWC work and influence legislation, including meetings, conferences, events, and news articles.

7. Draft press releases, testimony, web text and articles and testify on behalf of the organization at legislative hearings and events.

8. Design and deliver workshops for AWC on such topics as advocacy, domestic violence, mental health. 

9. Manage policy budget and grants, contracts and relationships with relevant consultants.

10. Manage organization’s compliance with city and state lobbying requirements. 

11. Direct base-building efforts as well as coalition and campaign-building.

12. Grow AWC base and its impact by organizing, doing outreach, and facilitating member meetings; identifying, developing, and implementing campaigns; and planning and leading direct actions; 

13. Represent AWC in speaking engagements such as press conferences, rally programming, workshops, etc;

14. Develop relationships with member-leaders and organizational allies; work closely with organizational allies to develop campaigns and members;

15. Develop and manage new and existing cultural and programmatic partnerships

16. Lead the organization of AWC programmatic activities such as our English classes, immigration detention visitation programming, mental health services, domestic violence trainings, mental health trainings, and other future program

17. Leading AWC local work to address domestic violence through community education, community support networks, bystander intervention, working with community partners and subgrantees to develop citywide referral and resource networks, multi-lingual informational tools, Facilitating monthly skill-sharing sessions with subgrantees; and Other tasks as assigned.

18. Conduct outreach activities in the community and facilitate trainings and workshops for members; Mobilize community members around advocacy actions such as voter registration, direct actions, advocacy campaigns, etc;Help draft comprehensive narrative and data reports on activities for all foundation and government contracts; and Other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications: 

Awareness of NYC and regional political climate and issues affecting AWC community and allies.
