1. Director of Development
Reports to: Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Development will proactively lead the development and the execution of a fundraising strategy to allow AWC to continue operations. The Development Director manages and coordinates the many facets of AWC development and fundraising work, including, but not limited to:

 

·      Government, foundation, and corporate grants. 

·      Individual donor fundraising and cultivation. 

·      Internal and external fundraising communications; and

·      All fundraising projects and events.

 

We are seeking a seasoned, creative, and energetic fundraising professional to help build and support an engaged team and lead the organization’s U.S. efforts to increase, strengthen, and diversify our fundraising. The Director of Development will work closely on a team with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Development Team, and other AWC staff to achieve the organization’s vision. 

The Director of Development will join AWC Development team in a full-time capacity. The position will have a three-month probationary period and yearly evaluations, which will determine this role’s advancement in the organization.

 Responsibilities: 

  • 1. Fundraising leadership and expertise: Lead the execution and diversification of the Asiyah Women’s Center fundraising through government (city/state/federal government/international institutions) contracts; foundation grants; corporate giving and partnership development; the development of a major donor program; benefit event fundraising; individual giving; and board and advisory board development and cultivation.

  • 2. Major donor cultivation: Work closely with and create opportunities for the Executive Director to engage and cultivate relationships with key supporters, including philanthropists, institutional funders, board members, major donors, leading volunteers, and city and community leaders to increase support for AWC and its visibility.

  • Team supervision: Manage the development staff, and provide timely feedback, assign tasks, pay close attention to deadlines, and address shortcomings and challenges.

  • 3. Grant Writing and Prospect Research: Lead all grant writing in close coordination with relevant Senior Management, Program staff, Finance staff, and/or provide support when needed.

  • 4. Grant Compliance and Program Reports: Ensure project activities align with grant agreements in close coordination with Program and Finance staff, Manage AWC’s grant reporting calendar and ensure timely submission of program reports, including keeping leadership informed of progress and deadlines, Supervise and write, when needed, grant/funder reports, working closely with the Program and Finance teams.

  • Establishing an organizational endowment and raising funds for the endowment.

  • 5. Proactive fundraising plan development: Work in close partnership with staff and the Board of Directors to develop and execute an ambitious 3-year fundraising plan, which supports the organizational vision and will secure its long-term sustainability.

  • 6. Fundraising strategy lead: Develop and lead an ambitious fundraising strategy, working closely with the staff team and leadership team to implement .

  • 7. External communications with donors and supporters: Work closely with the Communications team to create visually and emotionally compelling e-content and print content for AWC supporters and followers.

Qualifications: As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of AWC and be driven by its mission. Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate with proven experience in scaling a multi-site organization and a demonstrated ability to lead an ambitious and growth-oriented fundraising strategy.

●       A minimum of 5 progressively responsible development experience, with 3+ years in management roles.

●       Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred.

●       A proven track record of raising funds for organizations.

●       Proven ability to develop and follow a vision and strategic plan.

●       High level of professionalism and ability to articulate vision, mission, and strategy, and to represent the organization to donors as a confident, informed, and inspiring leader.

●       Superior relationship-building, speaking, and writing skills.

●       Excellent team builder and team player.

●       Understanding of online and campaign fundraising.

●       Experience working with program and finance teams.

●       A demonstrated commitment to women’s advocacy and human rights. 

Compensation:

2. Social Worker/Case Manager

Reports to: Executive Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    provide direct services to clients who are seeking shelter, as well, including but not limited to: referrals for immediate needs, advocacy in order to access shelter, housing assistance, food and clothing, benefits, employment or educational training, health, mental health, and details regarding client’s rights. And accompany clients in obtaining Order of Protections, lawyer appointments, medical appointments (at the client's discretion). 

2.    develop and maintain working knowledge of relevant social services systems/agencies, including shelter intake, rules and guidelines, housing programs and procedures, as well as benefits and entitlements programs. 

3.    inform and support clients in the process of advocating for their shelter rights and benefits; and conduct intakes of new clients.

4.    maintain accurate and proper record documentation using the database and ensure that client files and case notes are up to date;

5.    Alert Executive Director regarding client emergencies and assist in efforts to promptly deliver appropriate services;

6.    participate in weekly and bi-weekly staff meetings, as well as training and staff development and orientation activities;

7. Provide on-site direct counseling services to clients and lead group therapy service. Formulate an evaluation and treatment plan for clients. Assess service needs and provide individual counseling services to clients.

8.  Develop programming for our single mother’s trauma informed parenting programming and lead our mental health services trainings/programming. 

Qualifications: 

 1. Master's Degree in Social Work or Mental Health from an accredited school of social work. 

3. Arabic, Urdu, and/or Bengali speaking preferred

4. License Requirements

You will be required to have a valid Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) issued by the New York State Department of Education within one year of the date of appointment. This license must be presented to the appointing officer at the time of appointment or, if it is obtained after appointment, at the time it is received. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

5. Driver's License (preferred but not mandatory)

3. Outreach & Development Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary:

$50,000 - $55,000 a year

The Asiyah Women’s Center is the first women’s domestic violence emergency center in New York City to address the gap of appropriate residential services for the Arab, Middle-Eastern, Muslim, South Asian (AMEMSA) and/or the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) population. Our mission is to provide temporary housing for victims of domestic violence and women facing eviction, and/or homelessness. By connecting under-resourced women in our community to job opportunities, a range of mental health and medical services, permanent housing facilities, health insurance and legal assistance, we hope to empower women to get back on their feet and overcome their deeply traumatic personal circumstances.
The Asiyah Women’s Center is seeking a full-time outreach and development coordinator to research and apply for grants, secure sustainable organizational funding, and manage the organization’s social media platforms. This position is in person at least 3 days a week, with preference to those that live in Brooklyn, and may require evenings and weekends occasionally.

Job Summary:

The outreach and development coordinator will play a critical and versatile role on the development, social media, and outreach team, focusing on prospect research; supporting cultivation and special events, particularly the annual gala; engaging donors at all levels; and supporting frontline fundraisers in managing their portfolios and reaching out to their donors and prospects.
Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Research, identify, and evaluate potential funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other sources. 

2. Prepare and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports to secure funding for programmatic initiatives and organizational sustainability.

3. Collaborate with program staff to gather information, outcomes, and budget details necessary for grant applications.  

4. Craft persuasive narratives and develop clear and concise project descriptions aligned with the funder's priorities and requirements.

5. Ensure compliance with all grant-related guidelines, deadlines, and reporting requirements.

6. Collaborate with finance and program staff to develop accurate project budgets and financial reports for grant proposals and progress reports.

7. Develop and maintain strong relationships with funders, communicating updates, and expressing gratitude for their support.

8. Collaborate with the Communications team to provide relevant and accurate information for grant-related communications and materials. 

9. Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to raise awareness about the Asiyah Women's Center and its programs.

10. Create engaging and compelling content for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. 

11. Manage and maintain the organization's social media accounts, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.

12. Generate original content, including posts, images, videos, and infographics, to drive engagement and increase followers. 

13. Monitor social media trends, best practices, and emerging platforms to optimize the organization's social media presence.

14. Engage with followers, respond to comments and messages, and foster a sense of community across social media platforms.

15. Collaborate with internal teams to gather success stories, testimonials, and visual content for use on social media.

16. Implement paid social media campaigns to promote fundraising initiatives, events, and volunteer opportunities.

17. Analyze social media metrics and prepare regular reports to assess the effectiveness of social media efforts.

18. Stay up-to-date with current events, news, and trends related to domestic violence and homelessness to create timely and relevant content.

19. Monitor online conversations and trends related to the organization, and provide recommendations for proactive engagement.

Qualifications: 

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in fundraising.

2. Experienced with DonorBox, Salesforce

3. Proficiency with standard business software, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Experience working with fundraising databases is required, preferably Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM.

4. Must be able to work occasional special events (including evenings) as needed and additional hours during peak times as required.

5. The incoming candidate should be adaptable, able to learn quickly, communicate effectively with colleagues, be creative and committed to a donor-centric fundraising approach. They should be able to take on new projects in addition to prioritizing their work and managing their core, day-to-day activities accordingly. Most importantly, the incoming associate must value being part of a team. The senior development associate will report to the chief development officer and will work in partnership with their colleagues in development, the executive director, the board of directors, the communications team, and the program staff.

6. Must pass background checks and adhere to the organization's policies and protocols regarding client confidentiality and safety.

7. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for grant-related deadlines.
